Default Child Type

In the Advanced tab there is an option to set a default child type, with a dropdown list of templates. What exactly does this do? I expected that when you set this on a parent page, any new page that is created and assigned as a child to that parent would have that default template pre-populated in the "Add Page" modal dropdown but that doesn't seem to be the case. The last template used appears instead.

This seems like a really useful feature, as it would help ensure that the right template is set as the default for something like a blog item, event item, etc. Am I doing something wrong, or did I misinterpret what this setting is for? The documentation doesn't really go into depth on this setting. Thanks in advance.

I think it should work, can you open an issue, so we can track this?
