Modular text.md

I'm trying to get a grasp on modular pages. I am attempting to add a page via the admin panel. I already have a page that is using the modular template. When I add a page that I am aiming to be a _child of that main page, there is no option for text.md template. I know how to go back and change the file name, but what am I missing in being able to choose a /modular template via the admin?
