Meta Tags for blog items repeat how to set

Hi, I am having difficulty setting up my meta tags for blog posts. I am setting the blog item meta tags under grav pages, only problem is I get the empty tags from the global layout in gantry. I set the meta items on the global layout to make sure I did not forget to add any on each page but I can not use these on my blog posts as they have no layout in gantry. What am I doing wrong?
